Mohammad Amir Makes U-Turn on Retirement Decision Ahead of T20 World Cup
In a surprising turn of events, Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced his return to international cricket, just in time for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to commence on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.
Having retired from international cricket at the age of 28 in 2020, Amir expressed his desire to don the green jersey once again, stating, “I still dream to play for Pakistan!” The decision comes after constructive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), where he felt valued and needed for the national squad.
Highlighting his commitment to his country, Amir affirmed, “Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspirations.”
Pakistan finds itself placed in Group A alongside India, Ireland, Canada, and the USA for the T20 World Cup. Their campaign will kick off against the USA on June 6. Amir’s return adds depth and experience to the Pakistani bowling attack, as they aim for success in the tournament.
Amir boasts an impressive international record, having represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is from 2009 to 2020. Throughout his career, he has claimed 119, 81, and 59 wickets in the respective formats.
Notably, he was part of Pakistan’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2017 squad and holds the distinction of being the 15th highest wicket-taker for Pakistan across all formats.
